This time of year is what I call the “dark time”.  Most of my commute is spent in the dark, enduring temperatures that range from 20 to 50 degrees farenheit, with a wardrobe that is anything but cotton.

This morning it was 42 degrees with no wind– a perfect temperature for commuting.

The cotton part:

There is nothing better than the feel of cotton.  It is far more comfortable than the materials often associated with active situations.  Lycra, polyester, spandex, wool, and polypropylene are all awesome fabrics, but only when one is on-the-go.

Cotton kills, they say, because once it is wet  it can suck the life out of you, especially in the above mentioned temperatures.  However, on the bus the preferred fabric is cotton.  This presents a dilemma.  One hour of my commute is on the bike while 1/2 of an hour is spent on the bus.  Logic would say to stick with the wicking fabrics.

We do not live in a logical world.  Today there was no cotton in the morning.  As the day progresses, the material of choice can change.
